Harry Potter Anagrams

Galen, who has read all of the books, has applied his anagram skills to Harry Potter. The first page contains anagrams of the character names. Page 2 continues with actor anagrams and ends with some startling anagrams of the full book titles.

The Characters

Sirius Black = Club is a risk
= Basilisk cur

Lavender Brown = Brand new lover

Fleur Delacour = Of crude allure
= Lure fouler cad

Albus Dumbledore = Old Rubeus blamed
= Duel durable mobs

Rubeus was indeed blamed for opening the Chamber of Secrets but not by Dumbledore who defended him. The durable mobs would best describe Voldemort and company.

Dudley Dursley = Slyly rude dude
This one's pretty accurate although it's when he's not being rude that he's at his slyest.

Petunia Dursley
Auntie spy ruled
Rule any dispute

Easily upturned
You've probably heard of anti-spy but Mrs. Dursley was an example of 'Auntie spy', always peering out at her neighbour's houses.

Vernon Dursley = Round, never sly
Ever sunny lord
Round for sure but 'never sly' is debatable. The second anagram is definitely classified as an antigram.

Argus Filch = I crush flag
Hmm, not sure what this one means

Seamus Finnigan = Amusing fannies

Nicholas Flamel = Oh, life calls man

Cornelius Fudge = Seducing fouler
= Duel using force

Seducing fouler seems pretty accurate.

Hermione Granger = Gem on her earring
= Merging near hero

Gem on her earring goes well with the picture at right. Merging near hero is a clear reference to Harry.

Rubeus Hagrid = Bushier guard
= I sure had grub

There are a few definitions of grub that would suit Hagrid.

Bellatrix Lestrange = Blatant sex girl leer
= All rebel – extra sting

All rebel, she's a Death Eater and we saw her extra sting in The Order of the Phoenix.

Gilderoy Lockhart
Right crooked ally
The girly card look
Liked to clog Harry

The Chamber of Secrets film does not show nearly as much as the book how much Gilderoy liked to clog Harry.

Neville Longbottom = Let not mob live long
I guess the mob would be the Death Eaters.

Luna Lovegood = Go on old value
= A ‘no vogue’ doll

Remus Lupin = Lune purism
= Impulse run

Draco Malfoy = Card may fool
= Of a cold army

Lucius Malfoy = I lay foul scum

Minerva Mcgonagall = Call governing ma’am
Pretty good anagram for the head of Gryffindor house.

Moaning Myrtle = Any moment girl
She does seem to pop out at 'any moment'.

Alastor Moody = O, do stay moral

Harry Potter = Try hero part
= Err at trophy
Anagram #1 has been found by many but the second one has merit also, perhaps referring to grabbing the Triwizard Cup which was a portkey.

Tom Marvolo Riddle = Immortal lord dove
As I'm sure you know, Tom's name is an anagram of I am Lord Voldemort.

Rita Skeeter = Trait seeker

Horace Slughorn = Hour long search

Severus Snape = Save up sneers
= Save pureness
Interesting ones for the double agent.

Dean Thomas = O, the DA's man
= Death moans
= Not ashamed
He belonged to the DA a.k.a. Dumbledore's Army.

Nymphadora Tonks = Dark phantoms yon
Must be the Death Eaters again

Sybill Trelawney = Earn by wily tells
Most of her 'tells' were not so wily, except on those rare occasions when her voice goes deep.

Dolores Umbridge = Go, Sir Dumbledore
Downright freaky! She took over Dumbledore's job!

Dolores Jane Umbridge = Join Dumbledore’s rage
= Argus joined rebeldom
Argus was definitely on the side of Umbridge and her quest to seize control of Hogwarts

Arthur Weasley = We salute Harry
I can picture Mr. Weasley raising his glass and toasting Harry in The Order of the Phoenix

Fred Weasley = Fewer delays
= Lads were fey
= We ready self
We ready self may seem grammatically unsound but considering that Fred and George are identical twins who are always of the same mind, it could make sense.

George Weasley
Eyes ogle wager
Yes, we go. Regale!
Grow eagle eyes
Both of the Weasley twins liked to wager and there was definitely regaling when Fred and George took off after wreaking havoc upon Umbridge.

Ginny Weasley = Yay! New single

Molly Weasley = Yell same yowl
Yell & yowl. Yep, that's Molly.

Percy Weasley = Eye screwy pal

Ronald Weasley = Lose wand early
A little tape and it'll be fine - NOT!

Wormtail = I’m low rat
Not only was he literally a rat, he was about as low as you could go.
